Walnut Hill Park
184 W Main St, New Britain, CT 06052
Developed beginning in the 1860s, Walnut Hill Park is an early work of landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, with winding lanes, a band shell, and the city's monument to its World War I soldiers. The New Britain park was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The workshop will focus on the land prior to park development, the Walnut Hill Park Company, reservoir, development of the park and Olmstead’s plan and involvement. We’ll review the WW1 memorial history and architect, the re-established of the Rose Garden and other various highlights of the park followed by current day usages of the park as well as future plans. Lunch to follow.
